Best of Open Show 2011

Thanks to Open Show for all the support on my project Here Nor There.  I will be presenting along with five other artists at Apple Store, San Francisco on Thurs, January 19, 2012.

APA Something Personal

I am honored to be exhibiting in this annual juried exhibition and holiday party arranged by American Photographic Artists (APA)- San Francisco Chapter.  I was awarded 4th Place Judges' Award and will exhibit on Dec 10 at the Fort Mason Center.

Back To My Roots

On one of my scouting escapades to find natural objects that would translate nicely into my miniature worlds, I found these beautiful flowers, so delicate and hidden within their natural surroundings.  Photographing these flowers brought me back to the beginning of my photographic journey.  It was like going back in time, when I would photograph with no reservation, but now with a deeper understanding of my personal connection to the things I choose to photograph.

Behind the Scenes

Hello! I thought it would be fun to share how I created a couple more of the landscapes in my studio.  For the lake, I found slate then chipped away the edges to make a lake bed.  I used a tungsten light to create the overall warm tone.

For the snowy woods scene... During a slow shutter release to create atmosphere, I sprinkled baby powder while at the same time waving cotton around the back.

Creating A Landscape

Wanted to share a glimpse of how I create a landscape.  For these rolling green hills, I started with: 

A base of  Papier-mâche,

Then covered it with plaster casting.  

After it dried, sprinkled a green powder that resembles grass. 

Framed and captured the image while visualizing the action that would take place.  

Photographed the talent in the studio separately incorporating her into the landscape image.

Miniatures

Here is a sneak preview of what I have been working on in the past few months.  Constructing miniature landscapes (approximately 3x3') in my studio, having good times and listening to great oldies on 103.7 The Band.  The people in the images are real.. I photograph them separately then montage them into the landscape to tell the story.

Glad to have photographed this beautiful wedding in Berkeley this month.

Moon and Stars

Inspired by an illustrator extraordinaire- Blair Drawson on his image of a baby boy reaching to the moon. Thank you to an incredible crew who helped to carry my vision forth- I could not have done this without you guys. Colored Hair Portraits

I ran into Pepper the other day (the guy with the midnight blue hair and still has the same color hair) and remembered the portraiture project I worked on a year ago. 

Death Valley

A desert adventure for a week went by in a second. Carmen and I packed a weeks worth of food and hit the road for good times, sunshine and open skies. So inspiring was the scenery- can't wait to go back.
